Duffy & Duffy, PLLC Opens Bronx Office Following Landmark $80 Million Verdict

Bronx, NY – Duffy & Duffy, PLLC, a leading New York medical malpractice law firm, is proud to announce the opening of its newest office location in the Bronx. The firm’s new office is located at 388 Canal Place, Studio #404, Bronx, NY 10451, expanding its ability to serve Bronx residents and families affected by medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, and personal injury.

With decades of experience representing victims of medical malpractice across New York State, Duffy & Duffy’s expansion into the Bronx underscores the firm’s ongoing commitment to accessibility, advocacy, and accountability within the local healthcare system.

The new Bronx location follows one of the firm’s most significant recent successes in Bronx County: an $80 million medical malpractice verdict secured on behalf of a young man who suffered profound and permanent neurocognitive injuries due to the negligence of Jacobi Medical Center, owned and operated by the NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation.

In this case, the client was born extremely premature at 23 weeks gestation after physicians failed to provide appropriate prenatal care despite the mother’s well-documented history of an incompetent cervix. The jury found that Jacobi Medical Center departed from accepted standards of care by failing to provide a prophylactic cerclage, failing to conduct serial transvaginal ultrasounds, and failing to perform a timely rescue cerclage. As a result, the child suffered catastrophic, life-altering injuries, including cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease, profound intellectual disability, and global developmental delays.

After hearing extensive testimony, the jury held the NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation fully accountable, exonerating St. Barnabas Hospital and its physicians, and finding Jacobi Medical Center solely responsible for the injuries sustained.

“Our client and his family suffered traumatic and life-altering consequences due to the actions of the staff at Jacobi Medical Center,” said James LiCalzi, Partner and Associate General Counsel at Duffy & Duffy, PLLC. “If the doctors had provided our client’s mother with the proper medical care required under the circumstances, this tragedy could have been prevented.”

Duffy & Duffy expressed gratitude to the jury for delivering justice and hopes the verdict serves as a message that Bronx families deserve safe, competent, and accountable healthcare.

The opening of the Bronx office allows Duffy & Duffy to better serve clients in the borough where this landmark verdict was achieved and reinforces the firm’s dedication to protecting patients’ rights and improving medical accountability throughout the community.
