Life’s WORC., a private, not-for-profit organization providing comprehensive support for individuals with developmental disabilities, recently announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors. Mary Ellen Duffy, Esq., a partner in the law firm of Duffy and Duffy of Uniondale and attorney Donald Hazelton Esq. of Williston Park.
Hazelton began his own law practice in January 1993, concentrating on various areas of civil litigation. Prior to that time, he served with the law offices of Thomas Torto handling diverse civil litigation cases.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the St. John’s University College of Business. After graduating, he served as a sales manager with USA Today. Subsequently, he attended the St. John’s University Graduate School of Business, earning an MBA and then the St. John’s University School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor.
Hazelton is an elected member of the St. John’s University School of Law Alumni Association’s board of directors a position he has held for the past 14 years. Additionally, he currently is an adjunct professor in Business Administration and Management at the College of Professional Studies at St. John’s University.
He also is the founder of the St. John’s University Jean and John Hazelton Scholarship Fun, created in memory of his parents, both of whom were professors at St. John’s. To date, the fund has raised approximately $200,000 to aid needy students at St. John’s.
In addition, he is a major supporter of the St. John’s University “Bread and Life” family support program and an active Board Member of “I Love Our Youth” organization (Hollis, Queens, NY), a charitable organization helping the youth of America. He resides in East Williston, NY.
At Duffy and Duffy, Ms. Duffy works alongside her brother and father, serving as a trial counsel on medical malpractice and personal injury matters. Prior to joining the firm and while attending college, she served at the law firm of Kramer, Dillot et al, preparing medical malpractices cases for trial with one of the nation’s top medical malpractice attorneys.
After earning her Bachelor of Science in International Business and Management at the NYU Stern School of Business, she attended Fordham University’s School of Law at night while continuing to work on medical malpractice cases. She resides in Forest Hills, NY.
